"Nothing is yours. It is to use. It is to share. If you will not share it, you cannot use it." - Ursula K. LeGuin
I'm back! Back to my art, back to my blog, back to a bit of reading and quiet time! I wrapped up the first season of my gallery, Cappaert Contemporary Gallery, on November 1 and will be taking the next 6 months to paint, ponder, think, play...and then I will reopen for the season on May 1, 2016! It was a great year - thank you!
So, today, I ponder and read all day and wish to post my thoughts on "sharing". Some things this morning 'prompted' this thought. First, seeing a painting by one of my students/collectors that I have to admit was and is one of my favorites from the many years of teaching or 'sharing' of my time and talents. When I took the time out of my busy life to share/teach painting workshops, I really encouraged 'personal expression' - I believe everyone has a talent and should express it in their own way (not like the paint-n-sip, follow along type of painting opportunities that are out there). It was from this thought process that developed some colorful, wildly amazing paintings by some very talented artists/students! Here is the painting by a student from one of my last workshops I taught before deciding to focus my time more on my own studio practice. Isn't it great!
I truly do believe that I was given this talent to 'share' with the world. So to continue to paint is what I must do! I enjoy owning my own Contemporary Gallery to showcase my artwork and to 'share' the many talents of 30+ artists. I also enjoy 'sharing' my art by 'getting it out to a wider audience' by representation in many other galleries in the US.
So, since we all have talents or gifts to share with others, I ask you WHAT ARE SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU 'SHARE' ?
Here's a quick list of a few of the things that came to mind for me - how about you?
1. talents
2. time
3. thoughts
4. inspiration
5. dinner table
6. passion
7. smile

Another way I enjoy sharing my talents is by talking art and hosting 'artist demo's'. This past autumn I had an 'artist demo's day' and loved the interaction and sharing of my process that took place between the visiting artists and collectors. In 2016 I will be a featured artist for the Autumn show at Edgewood Orchard Galleries and will be doing an all day demo at the gallery. I so enjoy connecting with collectors so that they can truly understand the lengthy process of my art.
