"If you can believe in what you are and keep to your line - that is the most one can do with life." - from a letter written to Maria Chabot, 1944 from Georgia O'Keeffe
Life is full of punches, all around us...in ourselves, in our friends and family but passion and trust in what we are doing continues on. These words are not meant to be sad, these are happy words! Words and thoughts that are meant to lift us up and continue on with our passions. Never, ever give up.
After spending a glorious two weeks in the South West, I find myself back in my beautiful little studio in Michigan, back in some sort of groove and daily routine which I just LOVE! My morning walks, my yoga and my painting. I remind myself how lucky I am to enjoy all of this...with a good cup of hot tea to boot...(thanks Susan for the gift of this wonderful Cinnamon Spice Tea from Seattle - I LOVE it!). But in the act of life like the act of painting things don't always go as planned, my paintings are so in-depth, so built up of many layers that sometimes a certain layer isn't working and is fighting me so I have to change that layer, remove that layer or cover up that layer to make the picture look better. Every day the act of painting is different, some days the paint just flows and colors just 'work', texture may be light or heavy, some days there is just more 'glitz' and 'glitter' in those paintings too. How fortunate I am to be able to paint a little bit of my life and my days onto a physical surface.
Lately my paintings have been taken a little difficulty but I keep layering it on and voila! they start to work again....new color combinations miraculously appear, little flecks of glitter seem to pop through to the surface and galleries are loving what I do...and collectors as well!
This is the exciting time of year when I get to start delivering many of these precious little art babies to galleries who are gearing up for their busy season. Next week I deliver my first load to Edgewood Orchard Galleries in Door County, Wisconsin and soon I will be trekking to lovely Harbor Springs to deliver some paintings to Tvedten Fine Art...I can't wait to meet up with my friends and gallery owners who work so hard at creating inspiring gallery spaces for all to browse as well as selling fabulous art of all types to a collector base that really believes in the importance of original art.
Live your passion today...working those layers!
