"The house in which there was no furniture or ornaments, was filled up by the presence of the artist"-from atelier de Cezanne book

A week in Provence is going quickly!  Today was a very special day in Aixen Provence...we enjoyed visiting Cezanne's studio, walking paths and areas where he painted the beautiful Saint-Victoire mountain.  His studio was built outside of the city and remains to this day as he left it.   His studio walls are painted a neutral grey and he has this huge north facing window.
He was not admired as an artist in his own town of Aix...most of his works are elsewhere.  He was known to put cool colors next to warm colors and everyone thought he was crazy...really?
Aix is a huge city now and I enjoyed finding cooling comfort in the wooded area of his studio, which he painted in the last 4 years of his life.   He died in 1906.
