"When you have a talent of any kind...use it, take care of it, guard it" - Native American Proverb

In this beautiful Holiday Season, may I take a little moment to 'share' some of the wonderful art happenings in  'my little corner of the U.P.'.
Those of you that know me understand my passion for art and my appreciation for music as well.  One of my favorite local groups is the 'Wild Rice Concerts" based out of Marinette/Menominee.  They bring to us independent musicians from all over the globe!  These house concerts are held from Fall through Spring and at this time there is not a concert scheduled for December, but check their website (wildriceconcerts.org) for their January concert - and then come join us!
Another wonderful blessing in the U.P. is the Bonifas Art Center in Escanaba, MI.  It also brings in concerts as well as gallery exhibits and juried shows.  Currently in the gallery is "Northern Exposures" which is a juried show featuring the best-of-the-best U.P. artists.  This year's show is again amazing - you have to go see it!  (My "winter birches" painting received 1st place!)  The show ends this month and you can check their website for exact dates and hours - but I promise you that you will be in awe of the wonderful talent that surrounds us - AND most pieces are for sale if you need a gift or wish to purchase a piece of local art to add to your collection.
Also, The Bonifas Art Center is hosting a concert and afterglow party on Thursday, December 13 at 7 pm - call for tickets $12 adults, $5 students...check out the performers website www.nemanjabogunovic.com.
It will  be a lot of fun and unfortunately I can't make it as I have my son's Holiday Band Concert that evening!
One final 'good thing happening' in our area I wish to share with you is the next meeting of the Menominee Area Arts Council...which is on Tuesday, December 11 at Spies Library 5:30 pm.  MAAC as it is called is an organization made up of artists and non-artists, people who just love the arts and want to support it...so anyone is invited to this meeting to come see what MAAC is all about  AND WE HAVE A SPECIAL TREAT...following the short business meeting, artist Mary Derusha will be sharing her story of her art career over the past 20 years.  Mary grew up in Menominee and currently shows/lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico - her work is amazing as well as her spirit - so come join us!!!
