happy holidays

Thursday, December 23, 2010

I love the holidays -especially getting together with family and friends, as well as just chillin and hanging out with my husband and kids! It has been a wonderful year for my family and I and we are very grateful - we are hoping it has been just as wonderful for you - remember, count your blessings, each and every one! If you really take the time to do that you realize that life is better than you thought!
I'm taking a few days off from painting and then in January moving my studio from basement to studio/gallery space for the rest of the winter - that way I can work large and I can't wait as I have some large wood panels being built right now!!!!
One of my favorite winter spots (besides my back fields/forest) is Mackinac Island - yes, in winter, it's beautiful and quiet - so I leave you on this beautiful winter day with a photo or two from Mackinac Island. Happy holidays!

A wonderful snow is falling and I am enjoying a little quiet time, watching the birds outside my window, and reading my 'art books'. That stack of wonderful books that I browse through over and over again on quiet days like today. Some of the inspirational books I'm looking through today are Joan Snyder, Wolf Kahn, Willem DeKooning and more. Thank goodness for my wonderful collection of books. Now the question is do I venture out tonight for yoga or do I stay home?

winter time

Love the winter. I've been out cross country skiing every morning, absorbing the fresh white colors of snow and the beautiful blue skies. Although the temp's have been cold, it doesn't seem to phase me as I get going. Now back in the studio working with the creamy consistency of oil/cold wax, I seem to enjoy bringing those colors into my work today, we shall see where that leads.

How lucky can I be - a beautiful snowfall and I'm able to get out on my ski's. Cross country that is, with my ipod in the back field - pure joy after a busy shopping day yesterday - but now I am done!

O.k. another test to make sure this posts to my facebook page and my blog. I think I got it this time!

in time

"In time, exploration gives way to expression." a quote from "Art and Fear". I find that when I'm painting, the magic starts to happen as you push your boundaries, experiment and do more "what if's"! But this, of course, takes time. That may be why I feel I'm not getting too many paintings accomplished - because I've been exploring - and I guess that's o.k.
