This year's show was an invitational showing with almost 30 artists displaying their latest works. It was so much fun hanging the show, it's refreshing to see all the new work. So mark your calendar for the Labor Day Weekend ARt Show at my studio/gallery September 5, 6 and 7 from 9 am to 4. Some of the cool artists that are showing their work are Candace Zebell, Ryan Brayak, Mara Manning, Kellie Hanson, Barbara Kane Anderson, Johanna Axelrod, Jim LaMalfa, Beth Cox AND MORE!!!Oh, and an evening reception is being held on Friday, September 4 from 5-8 pm food, wine and meet the artists! Here is a photo on it's side, sorry, of some artwork in the Labor Day Show by Candace Zebell and Ingrid Blixt.

65th Art Annual @ Neville Museum

Monday, August 24, 2009

Friday evening I attended a wonderful reception at the Neville Public Museum in Green Bay for the opening of the 65th Art Annual. Art Annual is a highly competitive juried show featuring artists from Northern Wisconsin and the U.P. This years juror was David Sear and he selected 44 artworks for the show from 35 different artists. These pieces were chosen from a total of 166 images entered by 68 artists. I was thrilled to have 2 pieces accepted. Other U.P. artists accepted were Linda King Ferguson, Michael Letts, and Russell Prather. Works by all artists ranged from mixed media to serigraph, ceramic to oil, acrylic to digital photography. The show was very impressive, everyone should go see it. The show runs through January 3.

more encaustic

Monday, August 17, 2009

I am having so much fun just taking the time to play with encaustics. I'm trying to brighten my color palette, just a little, and am loving the textures/ patterns you can get with layers of encaustic. Also, because I work outside on the encaustic because of the fumes, I get to enjoy the beautiful weather we're having! I've also been working on some new jewelry, silver and copper, and am treating it like I do my mixed media's by texturing, pounding and layering the pieces. It's been fun and I hope to have some pieces done by the Labor Day Weekend Art Show here at the studio/gallery. Opening reception is Friday, September 4 from 5-8pm lots of food and wine! Lots to do!

new encaustic

Thursday, August 6, 2009

I finally got outside today and worked all day long in the beautiful sunshine on some new encaustic pieces. Inspired by the horizon line - where water meets sky and where land meets sky. Two different color palettes - and am working on cradled panels - two tryptych's. Really enjoyed the process and the results. I'm especially loving the "simplicity" of this pieces and am constantly reminding myself to "simplify" my work and life.
